Day 225 - NOG Coconut Milk

Well, I have never had egg nog in my life, and was not entirely sure I wanted to try it at all ... but then I was offered some of this stuff shown above ... so I decided what the heck?  I hated it.  Seriously - hated it.  I wonder if it is anything like regular egg nog.  I have no idea.  I almost threw up and definitely gagged on it.

Meanwhile - I am in a really good mood lately.  I am having a lot of fun and enjoying the Christmas season.  I am dancing like a fool in public and giving strangers compliments.  Hope you are enjoying the season as well.

Day 224 - Shakeology Mix-Up

So, you know - - I am in love with Shakeology.  It is not a secret.  Seriously - it is a salad that tastes like a dessert.  I am always on the lookout for new ways to try it, just to mix things up.

Today I simply mixed the Chocolate Shakeology with a hint of mint extract and 1/2 cup of cottage cheese for some added protein.  AND I MEAN, just a hint of the mint extract, it does not take much. I mixed it with water and ice, no milk.  It was amazing.  Tastes like a peppermint patty.  Keep in mind, I absolutely hate cottage cheese, just looking at it completely grosses me out.  SO this was very brave of me to put it into my Shakeology drink.   I couldn't even tell, at all.  People, ya gotta get ya some.

Day 223 - Sobe Water (Apple Pear)

So today, I tried a new zero calorie water  - - no artificial sweetener.  It is called Sobe Water and it is apple pear flavored.  I think - quite honestly - I just like regular water better.  I see no real need to drink this stuff.  But hey - it was worth a shot.

Meanwhile - here is some interesting info. I thought I'd share with you about why people fall off the wagon.  Is there a wagon you're trying to stay on ?  Do you need to be hog tired to the thing? :)  Here goes.

Here are the 8 reasons why you fall off the wagon

1. No focus: you didn't set goals, you didn't put your goals in writing, and or you didn't keep your goals in mind daily (by reading them, affirming them, looking at a vision board, etc.)

2. No priorities:  you may have set a goal, but you didn't put it on or near the top of your priorities list. For example, your goal is six pack abs, but drinking beer and eating fast food on the weekend is higher on your priorities list than having a flat stomach.

3. No support system: you tried to go at it alone; no buddy system, training partners, family, spouse, friends, mentors or coaches to turn to for information and emotional support when the going got tough.

4. No Accountability: you didn't keep score for your own accountability - with a progress chart, weight record, measurements, food journal, training journal, and you didn't set up external accountability (ie, report to someone else or show your results to someone else)

5. No patience: you were only thinking short term and had unrealistic expectations.  You expected 10 pounds a week or 5 pounds a week or 3 pounds a week, so the first week you lost "only" 1 or 2 pounds or hit a plateau, you gave up.

6. No planning: you winged it.  You walked into the gym without having a workout in hand, on paper, you didn't plan your workouts into your weekly schedule; you didn't have a menu on paper, you didn't make time (so instead you made excuses, like "I'm too busy")

7. No balance: your diet or training program was too extreme. You went the all or nothing, "I want it now" route instead of the moderate, slow-and-steady wins the race route.

8. No personalization: your nutrition or training program was the wrong one for you. It might have worked for someone else, but it didn't suit your schedule, personality, lifestyle, disposition or body type.

So there you have it - 8 mistakes that cause most people to fall off the wagon. Are you guilty of any of these transgressions? If so, the solutions are clear and simple:

Focus, prioritize, get support, be accountable, be patient, plan, balance and personalize.

Day 222 - Acai Super Antioxidant Smoothie

Today I visited Jamba Juice.  I was there anyway to meet somebody, and I just had to pop in.  I tried something that is marketed as heaving super antioxidants and good for you.  It was a 16 ounce Acai smoothie of sorts, although it wasn't really smooth like a smoothie, more icee like, if that makes sense.  I loved it.  Truly, loved it.  I almost drank the whole thing.  But it was not cheap - so I am not sure it will be a regular habit.

Day 219 - An Adventure

So this was a Saturday for adventure, where we spent 6 hours in the car to enjoy a Polar Express Santa Train ride with our boys.  We drove three hours to Palestine, TX - - enjoyed the experience there and rode the train - - and then drove 3 hours back home.  Very long day, with not a lot of opportunities for new things.

However - I did manage to bite some of my son's funnel cake with powdered sugar.  That is total junk food, I know - but I have always been very afraid of powdered sugar.  Sounds stupid, I am sure - but seriously - I would send pancakes back in a heartbeat if they ever came out with powdered sugar on them.  So my son asked me to take a bite of his funnel cake - including the powdered sugar - and I did.  Guess what, I did not die.  Amazing, I know.  Bad part is - - I kinda liked it.  No, that is not something I need to like - but one bite won't kill me.

I also tried some home-made lemonade with a big fat lemon in it.  I don't think I have ever had that before.  It was a little tart - but not too bad.

All in all - an awesome day.

Day 211 - Mocha Frappe from McDonalds

So today was kind of a busy crazy whirlwind kind of day, and I got to spend it with my husband who was off work.   Then he was a saint and took the teenage girls out shopping while I stayed home with the boys this evening.

SO here it is like 10:30 at night almost, and they come back.  It dawns on me that I have not tried anything new today, and about decided to just go with trying two new things tomorrow.

Then Lana, the foreign exchange student from Ukraine, offers me some of her Mocha Frappe that she bought at McDonalds.  Hey - it was good for a taste.   I know I am very coffee illiterate and know very little.  I never drink coffee.  I tried it black once as part of this 300 day challenge and hated it.  I also tried a caramel frappe from Starbucks (also courtesy of Lana), and it was yummy - but knowing it is high in calories and not good for my adrenal glands, I never had another one.  Anyway, I tried some of her drink tonight.  It was okay - but not a huge fan.  I definitely could sense the strong coffee taste to it.  I did not need more than a sip.  And as I said before, coffee is not good for my adrenal gland deficiency anyway, but I am proud to have taken a sip - whereas something like that in the past would have freaked me out completely.

Meanwhile - hubby also surprised me with an early Christmas gift called 'Up' by Jawbone.   Gotta figure the whole thing out, but I'm excited.  It's like a fitness/food/sleep tracker bracelet that you can wear on your wrist 24/7, even in the shower or swimming or working out.  Battery stays charged for like 10 days.  It even vibrates if it detects you have not been active in a while, to remind you to get off your butt and get moving. Anyhoo, More on that later... but here is a link to the website about it:  http://jawbone.com/up/product

Happy Weekend to all ...

Day 198 - Weight Loss Booster

So I had heard about this in my Fab Fit group, and then I also read about it on Pinterest.  It is a great tip for boosting weight loss!  So I finally decided to try it.

Mix - 2 Liters of water, 1 medium cucumber, 1 lemon, 10-12 mint leaves. Steep overnight in fridge and drink every day. Also good if you had a heavy meal or high sodium meal and trying to reduce bloating. Works like a charm.  Believe it or not, I actually kinda liked the creation.

Please note the picture below is not my own - I got it off of Pinterest.  My phone battery has been dying a lot lately, dying super fast (not sure why) ... and I didn't get a pic.  Ooops.  Oh well.  Forgive a mama.

Day 196 - Yakult

What the heck is Yakult?  Well, it is a small little probiotic drink.  WHY drink it ?

You may not think about your digestive system when you think about your overall well-being, but that’s where good health and proper nutrition begins. Drinking Yakult daily may help balance your digestive system. For 75 years, people around the world have been making Yakult a part of their daily diet – really?  That many, huh?!

On top of all the benefits Yakult tastes great! Yes, I said that.  It does indeed taste great.  I was surprised, for some reason I expected it to be kinda gross.  They claim that over 28 million children and adults around the world enjoy the delicious taste of Yakult every day.  I guess now I'm one of them.

Day 194 - Not feeling Peachy

OMG ... the thing I tried today, was a total accident.  The one thing I have always hated (smell, taste, touch, whatever) ... is peach.   I do not like anything remotely resembling peach.  I hate peach scented candles or lotions.  I hate to touch peaches.  I certainly do not like actual peaches or peach flavored things.  I am not sure if it is mental or physical or what, but I had an experience as a child where we went peach picking.  We came home and my mom threw me in the tub with the other kids we went with.   I had a terrible reaction to it.  My skin was just awful.   I felt yucky for days.  I was little when this happened, little enough to be thrown in a tub with other kids ... but I definitely remember it ... and have hated all things peach ever since.

So anyway, I went to Sonic to get just a plain iced tea.  That is what I ordered.  That is what I expected.  So I take a big drink, and holy cow - it was PEACH SWEET TEA.  Nasty stuff.  I literally gagged.   I tell you what, it is one thing to gear up for trying something new ... to think about it, to plan it, to embrace it.  It is totally another thing to be bambooozled and shocked by something you were NOT expecting.

I don't know about you - but I am counting that as my NEW thing for the day.  Not sure I could handle any other adventures right now, tee hee.   Moral of the story ... no peach nothing for this mama!

PS:  Just for the record, I was NOT eating food at Sonic - - was purely there for the plain tea.  :)

Day 173 - Twinings Pure Peppermint Herbal Tea

Blah and yuk - I have had the worst day, I actually have a fever and my tummy has been doing all kinds of bizarre things to me.   I had a bad night, migraine ... woke up, worse.  You know it's bad when you have to get your husband to do the kid duty thing.   Hate that.

I tried some herbal tea to try and make me feel better, but it did not work.  It was Twinings Pure Peppermint herbal tea.  Yuk!  I thought for sure it would help my tummy, but not at all.

Day 170 - Tazo Iced Green Tea Latte

Premium matcha green tea lightly sweetened
and combined with milk and ice.

I tell you what, I have never been a fan of Starbucks, and could not even care less about them in the past ... but I may have found myself a new love and an expensive hobby :)

I tried Tazo Iced Green Tea Latte today - - and it was fabulous.  I must repeat - it was absolutely fabulous.  Has anyone had one before?  Would love your input.

It's about 270 calories.  5 grams of fat.   3.5 saturated fat.  115 mg of sodium.  TEN grams of protein.

Day 162 - Apple Cider Vinegar and Apple Cider

So, I have been hearing all kinds of good things about Apple Cider Vinegar (known as ACV) and how it helps with metabolism and weight loss.  Not a lot of people drink it straight as it is not all that tasty, so I have been hearing a lot of how it is mixed up with other things.  Today I tried it with hot apple cider. Basically, I mixed two teaspoons with the packed of spiced apple cider (shown below) and hot water. Verdict? Not bad.  I must say, it is not a favorite, but I can tolerate it - especially for good benefits.  I will try it other ways as well.  I want to try it mixed up with Aloe Vera juice, and lemon/hot water.  Others have suggested honey.

Apple Cider Vinegar and Weight Loss… How Much to Take?

Most apple cider vinegar weight loss home remedies, like the one investigated in Vermont by Dr D. C. Jarvis, M.D., call for the taking of one or two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water before each meal

Patricia Bragg recommends adding 1 or 2 teaspoons of raw honey to this mixture.
Whichever way you take it, don't expect a rapid weight loss, the weight will be lost gradually, as it should be to allow the body's fat cells to adjust to their new size.

Apple Cider Vinegar and Weight Loss… How Does it Work?

It is generally believed that the nutrients, enzymes, and organic acids in apple cider vinegar cause weight reduction by acting as an appetite suppressant, by increasing your body's metabolic rate, by reducing water retention, and by helping you maintain a feeling of well being. No one is really sure how apple cider vinegar works to promote weight loss, but there is no shortage of theories.

Recent medical research has highlighted the connection between levels of insulin and weight loss. That coupled with the fact that vinegar is known to slow the rise of blood sugar after a meal leads to the suggestion that the taking of apple cider vinegar with a meal reduces the amount of insulin required to process the meal resulting in weight loss.

Apple Cider Vinegar and Weight Loss… How Long will it Take?

D.C. Jarvis, M.D.found that apple cider vinegar was widely used for weight loss. In his popular book "Folk Medicine" he emphasized that the resulting loss of weight
was gradual but permanent.

He spent many years practicing medicine in Vermont and observing the effects of home remedies used throughout the green mountains.

As a general rule, from numerous observations, he found that a woman of average height weighing 210 pounds will weigh 180 pounds after 2 years if she takes 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar in a glass of water at each meal.

That's 15 pounds weight loss a year, with no change in daily food intake, except avoiding excessively fatty foods.
